Finding the mission field on your doorstep

God called me to join the Klipheuwel team in March 2007. The scripture He gave me was Matt 25:40 and it has been my motivation ever since. “And the King will answer them, I assure you: whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me”.

The first few years I felt like a missionary going on an outreach into Africa. The environment was very rural and poor. The children were often hungry (some children had only the single bowl of soup per day that ESCC provided) and many of them didn’t have proper school clothes or shoes.

We worked in a Wendy house that was very cold in winter and very hot in summer…a tangible reminder of the living conditions of many of the kids.

Over the years conditions improved and I can see God’s blessing on this outreach and His love for every child. Although the environment looks a bit less rural to me now, I still feel like a missionary, helping children read and telling them about Jesus.
