Miracle Twins: A Supported Journey of Faith

When my husband Kobus and I got married, we decided to first work on our fianances, to work off our bursaries and then to start our family. We thought iw as easy. And we did exactly that.

I finished working off my bursary, I got pregnant and it went well. Almost two years later we decided to have another baby and Talita came. It all went well. I thought that that’s the way it goes, however, it wasn’t the same for my children.

A big shock for the family
When my son Pieter got engaged, he and his fianacé told us that they wanted four children and they weren’t going to wait after getting married to start a family. After a year of marriage, he and his wife told us that according to the doctors they’d consulted there was no way that they could get pregnant.

This was a huge shock and absolutely devastating to all of us because we were so looking forward to Pieter and Simone having children. They started with IVF but it wasn’t working and after two rounds, they stopped.

I hadn’t shared this with my cell group up until that point because it’s not something you chat about around the coffee table or dinner table, it’s very private. However at cell one evening we told Schalk and Marie, “The kids can’t get preganant, it’s not working.” Immediately Schalk declared, ”No way! I know in my heart, Pieter is going to have a child!” And so they stood  with us and built our faith when we had little faith.

Then at Christmas two years ago I got a red gift box from Pieter and Simoné with a gold bow on it and inside it said, “Liewe Oupa en Oma Theron, ONS kan nie wag om julle to ontmoet nie” (“Dear Grandma and Granpa Theron, We can’t wait to meet you”.

I said “ONS?” Simoné said, “Yes! I’m expecting twins!”

So God blessed us double! However it was a hard road. To have friends and family walk with you and pray when you cannot pray, it’s wonderful. It’s key.

Then we had another blessing this year at the Bless a Baby Par-Tea. There were so many prizes and I don’t need any baby goods. But then I saw the high chair and I said to the ladies at my table “I only want the high chair because I don’t have one and my grandchildren are coming for Christmas”.

I won a raffle ticket and so did the other ladies at my table, including my friend Nelda. We stood in the queue and went up on stage and I gave my number and guess what…I won a high chair!

I heard Nelda behind me say, “You need two!” Nelda gave her number and would you believe it, she won a high cahir too! We laughed hysterically. Nelda doesn’t have grandchildren yet, and insisted that I use her one. So God blessed us with two high chirs in time for Christmas! – Belinda
