Restoration after a job loss in 2020

My husband’s company was liquidated in March 2020. He worked as a pilot and therefore it was difficult to find employment. We made major adjustments, including selling our home.

He found emoyment as a compliance officer, which he was very grateful for. He was treated well, worked in a healthy environment, but he was not working in a job that brought any fulfillment. He had never worked in that position before and had no knowledge of the law or compliance, but worked with integrity. Financially it was still a struggle to meet our obligations.

We put our home in the market in 2023 and moved to a smaller apartment, My husband said that he was going to trust God for a pilot job again, as soon as we are settled. We had prophesies released over him that he would fly again, but as time passed the doors seemed as if they kept on shutting and we lost hope at times (he turned 60 in October).

We had been in our new home for a few weeks in August 2023,  when he received a phone call from an airline inviting him to apply as a pilot. He is now employed again as a pilot in the Cape Town base. He is starting his training on Monday for 6 weeks. We are grateful to God.

We learnt many lessons on this journey: how to wait on God; how to live simple lives and be joyful( savory rice can be a feast if received with gratitude); to waste less. There are many more lessons we have learnt and many more we still have to learn.

The goodness of God never fails – may we say it when there is lack and in abundance. We took a step of faith and sent our daughter to university at the beginning of 2023 when, on paper it, seemed impossible. It has been her dream since the age of 8. She worked hard at school, saved most of her money since the age of 8 and was able to contribute financially during her 1st year. She worked during holidays, was blessed with good tips as a waitress and saw the goodness and faithfullness of God in every step she took.

I work for a NPO, training unemployed marginalized communities. I stayed with my calling, knowing it does not finacially benefit the family. God was faithful and I had opportunities to supplement my income with seasonal work, without compromising my calling. I have stories to tell how God is starting to use God movement material with the students as they seek to find their God-given talents. Thank you for this platform that enables me to give our Heavenly Father all the glory. He surely goes ahead.

I am also forever grateful for the family of Christ who reached out to us during this time in many different ways. We would not have kept the hope if it wasn’t for these faithful servants. God bless you.

P.S. This just came to mind: in March 2021 my husband said that we’d have to sell our one vehicle the next week (he was still unemployed then). A few days before the sale, he received a phone call from the CEO of the company to inform him he had the job as a compliance officer.
