The Impact of different generations (Part 1)

Michael Howard shared this testimony on behalf of the Young Adults (19-30 year olds) on how people of different generations, both older and younger have impacted his life. You can read the testimonies below or watch Michael share them in the video below.

“If you remember Stuart Rose-Innes, some people remember him? Yeah, what a legend. What a great guy. Anyway stuff of legends – everybody’s got a Stuart story! He used to tell the rain to go away when it was coming, and the clouds would listen. A really profound guy.

But, in children’s church, (which is getting longer and longer ago), I was often naughty and he would take you by the ear – which I deserved. There was often a group of us and I remember he was a serious guy, and a big guy, at least when you’re that tall. And he would come down on his knees, weeping and I didn’t understand why he would cry back then, but I do now. He would explain to us in ways we could understand, how important it was to behave. But then to submit to Jesus as the Lord of our lives. That’s followed me my whole life. When I left children’s church, he gave me a letter about how Peter climbed out of the boat and it was because the Lord Jesus told him to do that. The lesson that he taught me was when you know God’s telling you to do something, do it.  That’s followed me my whole life and I’ve not been perfect in this, but as much as possible I’ve tried to step out of the boat when I know God’s telling me to. He (Steward) made a mark on my life in many ways, but that’s I’ve never forgotten.
I’ve had the privilege of interacting with a couple of younger guys throughout my life.  I got to meet a couple of them in Stellenbosch a few weeks ago and it’s been amazing to see how they’ve understood. you know we’ve done our best to talk about how to contend to see the lordship of Jesus worked out in their lives and sitting with these guys who were really young and in grade 8 being like “how do you read your Bible?” They’ve become men whose early affections for God has developed into a mature driving desire to see the lordship of Jesus worked out in Stellenbosch where they are studying and it’s just amazing to sit there and be blessed by them as brothers in the faith so that’s the two ways I feel I’ve been impacted by [different] generations”.
