The Impact of different generations (Part 3)
Karen Maberly shared on behalf of the 30-50 year-old age group on how a generation older than her has been a blessing, as well as all the lessons she’s learnt from children.
“How awesome it is to have a champion. We need a champion in our lives. Somebody who is there to stand behind us and believe in us, but who also has the wisdom to look ahead and actually see things we can’t see when we are stuck in the moment. It was a blessing living under parents who pray.”
“From children I’ve learnt to look at life in wonder. When a spider ran up to my own children and it felt threatened and put up its front legs, they said, “Look mom! It’s saying, ‘Praise Jesus. Praise Jesus!’
I’ve learnt the joy of praying, just praying from your heart from children – even if you pray with a giggle because the classmate you are praying for walks in the door late and they’re not sick.”
She adds that she’s learnt these things from children too, “Be authentic because children see right through you. Be accountable. I learnt this from the kids in my class. If I say I’m going to do something, I better do it, because they’ll check up on me. I once shared that I’d like to be more patient in the traffic on the way to work. Not shout at the taxis. And the kids in my class went to check with my own children. ‘So how’s it going in the car on the way to school?’
I’ve also learnt how important words of affirmation are. How we as parents need to speak that over our children. I’ve watched them (children) blossom because of unconditional love.”
