Celebrating Legacy and Generations at ESCC

On Sunday, 10 August, we enjoyed a wonderful in-person celebration at ESCC, where every generation—from the youngest to the oldest—gathered together.

We began with worship, then reflected on what God is doing among the different generations at ESCC. We celebrated new life in our church family with the births of Maya-Jane de Lange and Nathan Nel, and we rejoiced in all that’s happening in children’s church, youth, and young adults.

We also honoured two remarkable couples: Erith and Lynn Budge, and Paul and Lorna Harris – who are stepping down from eldership after serving faithfully for over 25 years. Their influence and commitment have been deeply significant in the life of ESCC. While they are leaving this leadership role, they remain very much part of our community, and we look forward to seeing what God has in store for them in the next season.

Another highlight was Bruce’s announcement that Michael and Sarah Howard will be returning to South Africa from Melbourne, Australia, to rejoin ESCC. Michael will be joining our pastoral staff in February 2026. An exciting new addition!

Bruce then interviewed Tony Fitzgerald, who joined us live from Richmond, Virginia. Tony shared about the legacy of COTN, reflected on his journey with Bruce, Judy, the elders, and the church, and announced that he has stepped down from COTN’s Apostolic Council as he approaches his 80th birthday. While no longer on the council, Tony will remain involved and is now affectionately known as “founder, father, and friend.”

After this meaningful time of worship, reflection, and family news, we closed our celebration with tea, coffee, and cupcakes together.
