Living the adventure God has for us, as young men
Three Stellenbosch University students who are former El Shaddai Christian School pupils are part of a group of 15 known as ‘Simplify.’ These 15 are committed to build relationships with, and disciple, people outside the church and they are connected to Bruce and Judy and the ESCC leadership.
The three Stellenbosch University students mentioned above are Ronen, Philip and Tim. They have gathered some like-minded guys who have a heart for Jesus and discipleship and the group will be travelling to India on an adventurous mission and discipleship trip.
Ronen shares, “The heart for India started when we realised that we live in a country, South Africa, where most people worship God (Jesus) and in India this isn’t the case. For me it was like, then we need to go. Another reason for going is to live the adventure God has for us as young men. There is an adventure to live and we want to follow Jesus radically.”
The group of nine students is going to fly into India and then go in different directions, in groups of three. Each group has unique relationships in the country and the guys are taking different approaches. One group is going with only their passports and no money.
They are trusting God to provide and to find a ‘man of peace,’ as referred to in Luke 10.
Phillip shared a bit more of how the India trip came about. “At the beginning of the year Ronen and I discussed how cool it would be to take a group of guys to India, as Ronen and I had been before.
The week we started praying about taking a group to India, I received a Whatsapp from a pastor I had met in 2023 when I went to India with a church in Stellenbosch. This pastor had not contacted me in two years – the last time he messaged me was 2023.
He said that the church that he planted is up and running and if possible, if I’m in India he’d really appreciate it if we could come and help serve them!
We’re going to meet people that we have a relationship with and we hope to lighten the load a bit and bring encouragement to their ministries. We’re really excited to partner with the Holy Spirit and we’re expectant of divine encounters with people on the street and the opportunity to minister to those that don’t know Jesus. The harvest is ready but the workers are few. It’s a privilege to be one of the workers in the harvest.”
The students will be travelling from 26 June – 8 July. If you’d like to pray for these students, you can sign up here.
