Witnessing the Holy Spirit move in India
One of the teams of Stellenbosch students (called The Dream Team) who went to India travelled to Punjab, near the Pakistan border. They had planned to spend a week in a local village before heading to the mountains to pray and fast for India. However, due to monsoon flooding, the second part of the trip had to be cancelled. Choosing to stay and give their all in the village where they were, they later realised that they would have missed powerful moments had they left, confirming that God had a purpose for them to remain in Punjab.
During their time there, they visited a house fellowship where spiritual resistance was initially tangible. The family hosting the gathering had grown disillusioned with the gospel after a previous pastor had stolen from them. As the team shared testimonies, taught from the Word, and prayed, they witnessed a shift. The Holy Spirit moved powerfully, and by the end of their visit, what began with opposition ended in deep connection; it felt like family.
Woman and her son healed
Philip, one of the team members, shared the following:
“We were praying in Afrikaans at one stage and they couldn’t understand us, so they weren’t reacting emotionally to the words, but when people encountered the Holy Spirit, they started crying or reacting.
We prayed for the mom of the house, who had been diagnosed with liver and kidney failure, and she needed to go for dialysis but it was a combination of her not wanting to go and not having the money to go. So we prayed for her healing.
When I got back to Stellenbosch, I received a voice note from the pastor who was our contact. He said he appreciated us being there, and almost as a side note, he said, ‘The lady you prayed for is healed. She went to the doctor and her kidneys and liver are healed.’
We also prayed for her son, who was addicted to drugs, and we prayed for him while he was high. In the same voicenote, we were told that he hasn’t touched drugs and has no desire to since we prayed for him.”
The Holy Spirit leads a man to the team
“We went to one house, and a man showed up uninvited while we were there. He said that he was praying and he felt the Holy Spirit show him a light above a house two doors down from where he lives, and he felt the Holy Spirit say ‘Foreigners will be at this house tonight and you should go there.’ He showed up in the middle of our fellowship and engaged with what we were saying. Afterwards, we went back to his house and prayed for him and his wife and then it was like out of the book of Acts 2 – Like an upper room moment. We were praying in tongues for him and then he started praying in tongues, and his daughter started worshipping and then everyone in the room started worshipping and it was like Holy Spirit fire. These were some of the highlights for me.”
